The hood and the trunk lid are similar in how they have a skin on top with a framework underneath. To stop the skin from "drumming" against the framework, flexible urethane foam is used to fill any gaps. I have removed most of that from the hood while the trunk lid retains most of its foam. Both pieces will need to be addressed before painting.
There are some areas on the hood which have surface rust that needs to be addressed.
The doors have considerable rust on the inner sides and framework. Most of the outer skin seems okay except the driver door lower, back corner. I need to know if the doors can be repaired and what it would cost so I can make a decision. Should I look for new doors or not?
An area for concern is the underneath of the car from the differential mounts (See "Underneath and Rockers" section) to the rear taillight panel (at bottom). Between the driver rear quarter and the spare tire well also needs attention. There is a lot of surface rust that needs to be treated.
As seen in the introductory picture of this website, the car has no suspension. 1.5-inch square, 1/8th inch channel was used to make rectangular frames with locking wheels and then attached to the sub frame. For transporting and extra support, one long piece of channel (not seen in picture) connects the front and rear carts.
Schutz. What is it and where does it go? Unterbodenschutz is German for undercoating. See pics below. I will use "schutz" to mean undercoating.
